Bella Vista

$21.00

Meaning ‘beautiful view’, Bella Vista sits at an impressive 2,200 meters above sea level. Due to the area's proximity to the equator and the angle of sunlight the coffee here thrives in this unique volcanic microclimate. The extremely high altitude allows for slow maturation of coffee cherries and results in a sweet and complex profile.

Seemingly located in paradise, living here has been less than ideal for Ulpiano Rodriguez’s family. First, they were forced to move from Nariño to make a living picking Cacao in the 90’s, then having to move back when a violent gang took over the area leaving them to start from scratch. Ulpiano has managed to cultivate a specialty coffee farm expanding three hectares at some of the highest possible altitudes in the world for growing coffee.

Being part of the association ‘Buesaco con Altura’ allows the support he and other farmers in the area need to produce best possible coffee and maintain quality year to year.

Serrania Organic Decaf

$0.00

We take our decaf seriously. This instalment on our decaf program is a great example of what decaf coffee can be like.

Coming from the rich and fertile soil of Sierra Nevada and Serrania del Perija of Colombia, this fair trade and organic coffee’s flavour is maintained by undergoing the mountain water decaffeination process. This involves being soaked in water and decaffeinated through osmosis.

The water is made up of organic flavour solubles extracted from a sample of the same coffee and allows for only the removal of caffeine in the process, leaving the flavour intact. Most importantly this coffee is associated with Cafe Femenino which is a gender equality program committed to supporting women producers.

This is a once off purchase and is not a subscription.

Woluchu Wachu

$21.00

Wolichu Wachu washing station is a new player on the market in Ethiopia. Grown in Guji, a sub-region of world famous Sidamo, this washing station is making waves in the area in only its second year of production.

Once harvested, the cherries were depulped and fermented underwater for 48-72 hours before being washed and soaked for an additional 10 hours. To complete the process, the coffee was spread on African raised beds to dry for 9-12 days. As a ‘Special Prep’ lot, defective beans were hand removed by trained sorters throughout the drying process.

Any coffee coming from Sidamo, or one of its increasingly distinctive sub-regions comes with lofty expectations. This year Wolichu Wachu has well and truly risen to the challenge.
